Introducing our ‘Memories at home’ resource packs for older people

Big Hearts announces a new reminiscence project to further improve outcomes of older people during the Covid-19 disruption.

In March, following the suspension of our popular weekly reminiscence groups Edinburgh & Football Memories, our charity initiated a brand new project which sees over 100 vulnerable older people receive ‘Memories at home’ parcels directly to their front door.

Today, we are delighted to announce that thanks to a grant from the Scottish Government’s Wellbeing Fund, our charity is now in the position to extend the project and distribute around 400 packs every month until the end of the year!

Big Hearts ‘Memories at home’ packs provide reminiscence resources to help older people recall fond memories and encourage conversations safely from their own home.

Each parcel contains a letter, 14 themed photo cards and a printed ‘Gazette’ with various articles and interviews covering past football games, childhood stories as well as cultural & socials events of the 20th century.

We’ve worked with our partner Latcham Direct to create a unique set of dementia friendly collectibles with a vintage feel, with each pack being delivered by post on a fortnightly basis.
