Volunteers Week 2019: time to celebrate Big Hearts Supporters!
This year’s national Volunteers Week will take place between the 1st and 7th of June. An opportunity to recognise the contribution of volunteers to the third sector and the many causes and charities they support throughout the year!
Since the launch of Big Hearts’ volunteering programme three years ago, our ever-growing community of supporters has become a driving force to reduce social isolation in our communities. Big Hearts Volunteers support an average of 800 vulnerable people every year – and close to 90 people every single week from Tynecastle Park!
During Volunteers Week 2019, Big Hearts will be celebrating 3 main successes:
- Milestone of over 10,000 volunteering hours donated to date by Big Hearts Supporters.
We are delighted to announce that to date Big Hearts Volunteers have donated over 10,000 hours of their free time to change lives! From befriending a child to helping at a family event, supporters are getting involved in many different ways and we would like to thank each one of our volunteers for their invaluable contribution!
- Big Hearts Volunteers recognised by the City of Edinburgh’s Inspiring Volunteer Achievement Awards.
Two of our lovely volunteers, Rebekah Smith (Befriender) and Nick Murby (Youth support) are set to receive an Inspiring Volunteer Achievement Award, a prestigious volunteer recognition handed by the Lord Provost himself! Congratulations to them both on a well deserved award!
- Launch of a new series of Supporters’ Stories, told by volunteers in their own words.
We want to give a voice to the amazing individuals who choose to support our work and make a difference to those most vulnerable. This Volunteers Week will see the launch of a new section on our website, where anyone will get to find out more about the personal motivations and experience of volunteering through Big Hearts. Watch this space!
