Kinship Family Open Day 2017

On Tuesday 17th of October, we are delighted to open our doors to all kinship care families, with our third annual Kinship Family Open Day, held between 11am and 3pm at Tynecastle park.

Following the launch of Big Hearts’ Kinship Care programme in 2015, at our very first Kinship Family Day, Big Hearts and their partner Mentor Scotland have developed a wide range of comprehensive support for young people and their carers, including a weekly After School Club, holiday activities and more recently new peer to peer support and emergency essential funds.

Last year’ Kinship Family Open Day was a great success, with over 300 guests, becoming the largest gathering of kinship carers in Scotland. This year’s event is set to be even bigger and better with an exciting host of activities for all.

Our Kinship Open Family Day will be offering fun activities for the whole family to enjoy – including face painting, stadium tours, music tuition, football, multisports & games! As the event will take place at Tynecastle, families will also get the chance to meet Hearts’ first team players. There will be a fantastic marketplace of stalls for carers, where partner charities will provide information on support available in the community. A tasty buffet lunch will also be offered to all in attendance on the day.

Big Hearts Interim General Manager, Craig Wilson said:
We are thrilled to be celebrating two years of Big Hearts’ Kinship Care Programme by offering a fun-filled Family Day, free and open to all kinship care families across Scotland. We are looking forward to a fantastic day celebrating all the families and their impressive resilience whilst raising the profile of Kinship Care in Scotland.”

The event is free and open to all kinship care families.
