Time to say thank you

This 37th Volunteers’ Week we want to share our immense gratitude to the hundreds of dedicated Big Hearts Supporters who helped us support 8,000 vulnerable people in the past year.

The last 14 months taught us a lot, with hundreds of individuals deciding to get involved with our charity for the very first time. Many more volunteers completed two or more roles throughout the year and a large group adapted their contribution by volunteering remotely from home. Your commitment and resilience helped us navigate a difficult year.

To all of you, we want to say: thank you!

The new face of volunteering

When we set up our volunteer programme  in June 2016, our aim was to offer volunteering opportunities which appeal to Hearts fans aged over 18, and provide the right environment for them to gain new skills and meet like-minded people.

Five years later – and despite the challenges of Coronavirus – we are proud to see that 51% of Big Hearts Volunteers have increased their social connections in the past year. Our volunteering community also rose by 30%, with 143 new individuals stepping up to help others most vulnerable.

With more and more young people interested in using their time to support our charity, we are delighted to bring the Scottish Government’s Youth Guarantee to Tynecastle Park! Big Hearts is committed to offer fulfilling volunteering experience to anyone aged 16 to 24 years old who are involved in our programmes.
