Throughout July and August Big Hearts will maintain their support to individuals and families in need, and particularly those who are at a higher risk of social isolation during the Summer months.

Big Hearts will deliver over 40 days of free activities with charity partners – offering engaging opportunities for people aged 5 to 95 years old.

Our Summer Programme 2018 will reach out to new groups in the community, with the launch of a new Reminiscence Project for older people, two weeks of free meals and activities open to children attending the local schools and an extended Holiday Club for young people.

Holiday Club – 9th to 13th July
Big Hearts’ Holiday Club will welcome over 20 young people from various backgrounds to enjoy a week of exciting activities – including Music Tuition, Crazy Golf and a visit to Blair Drummond Safari Park. This year, thanks to the sponsorship from Cash for Kids, the Holiday Club is open to all children across our main programmes and a free healthy lunch will be provided every day!

Edinburgh Memories – 17th and 18th July, 7th and 21st August
Big Hearts’ brand new reminiscence project – based on the iconic people and places of Edinburgh – will launch this Summer with afternoon sessions in the Hearts Museum. Anyone over 65 interested in sharing memories and discovering more about the Capital’s history is welcome to join the group. It’s free and open to new participants! The launch session on July 17 will be followed by a day trip to the Military Museum on July 18.

School’s Out! – 23rd July to 3rd August
Big Hearts has been working closely with Tynecastle High School to set up this 2-week programme for local pupils identified as most at risk of social isolation during the summer break. The ‘School’s Out!’ initiative will enable a group of 25 young people to access free nutritious hot meals and daily activities in the heart of their community. A team of 7 Volunteer Teachers will join the Summer Fun which includes Cooking Workshops, Football Courses and an exclusive Owls Handling session at Tynecastle Park!

Further activities across Big Hearts’ existing programmes will include:
Football Memories sessions in the Hearts Museum – 10th July, 31st July, 14th August, 28th August
Befriending Group Activities with the Broomhouse Centre – 11th, 18th, 25th July and 1st August
Holiday Football Courses with Heart of Midlothian Community Department – 6th to 10th August
