School’s Out – Many more children supported this summer
A record attendance for the 3rd edition of the project
Big Hearts’ efforts to support vulnerable families over the summer holidays resulted in doubling the duration of our School’s Out project whilst increasing by 3 times the number of children involved!
Throughout July over 60 young people got to access 4 weeks of free fun and educational activities, including a new series of interactive workshops on Radio DJ, filming, robotics and music.
Over 800 free meals were provided in addition to breakfast and snacks, as holiday hunger remains one of Big Hearts’ main focus outside of school term.
The programme benefited from the continued support from DPS Group via their Local heroes Fund, a 4-figure grant from Cash for Kids and the fantastic commitment from Big Hearts Supporters, fundraisers and volunteers.
The North British Distillery joining in the fun with Family Trip
To mark the final day of the programme The North British Distillery – Big Hearts’ neighbour and close supporter – put together a day trip to Almond Valley for the children and their family members.
Thanks to the generosity from the Distillery’s staff over 70 people got to enjoy a fun day out, which included lunch, along the wooded riverside of the Livingston’s farm and heritage centre.
We’re delighted to know the young people will have many stories and happy memories of their summer to share when they get back to school.
