School’s Out: 2 new blocks in 2020, thanks to Cash For Kids boost

Big Hearts’ successful School’s Out! project will run in January and February thanks to the support from the charity Cash For Kids.

Our efforts to support vulnerable families over the school holidays have received a fantastic boost with a £2,335 grant from Cash for Kids. The funding will enable our charity to run two blocks of the project over the remaining days of the Christmas holidays and during the first school break in February 2020.

The project welcomes a group of young pupils living in the Tynecastle cluster who have been identified as vulnerable or isolated when the schools are off. School’s Out will start on the 3rd of January providing breakfast, hot lunch and engaging activities at Tynecastle Stadium until the children are back to school on the 9th of January.

Last summer this project saw a significant increase with three times more children involved than ever before. The issues of holiday hunger and food poverty remains one of the main challenges in South West Edinburgh and Big Hearts’ main focus outside of school term.
