Big Lottery announce Kinship Care funding for the next 3 years!

Today Big Hearts’ Kinship Care programme has been revealed as one of the 20 National Lottery Funded Projects! The funding aims to help create better outcomes for vulnerable families in many parts of Scotland.

Big Hearts is delighted to have their Kinship Care programme recognised with a three-year funding from the Big Lottery.

The £149,423 grant will enable our charity to develop and sustain their support to Kinship Care families for the next 3 years, helping make a positive difference to 750 kinship young people and their carers across Edinburgh.

Since 2015 Big Hearts has significantly developed their offer of support to vulnerable kinship care families, who can face very challenging circumstances and be at a high risk of social isolation.

Big Hearts is currently running a weekly After School Club for carers and children, a Befriending Service for young people, a Male Carer support group, Family days out during the school holidays and a well-established Annual Family Day open to all kinship care families in Scotland.

Announcing the funding, Maureen McGinn, Big Lottery Fund Scotland Chair, said:
“Many of today’s funded projects will strengthen families’ ability to cope with a wide range of challenges. Whether dealing with the aftermath of someone going to prison, living with the emotional and psychological effects of domestic abuse or coming to terms with a child’s life limiting illness, these projects will make a real difference to hundreds of families, children and young people across Scotland. These National Lottery funds really are life changing and will have a positive impact for people who need our help the most.”
