As part of this summer’s programme of activities for Kinship Care families, Big Hearts will be teaming up again with Fostering Compassion to provide exciting new workshops for young people and their families!

A total of three workshops will take place over the summer months, open to any Kinship Care families – those who have previously attended similar workshops and those who are new to the Fostering Compassion network.
Fostering Compassion workshops open up vulnerable children to the world of animals and nature through fun activities & days out. Children attending the workshops have shown good engagement in learning and increased self-confidence, self-worth and self-esteem and improved compassion and empathy.

  • Buddy Bear Workshop – ‘Be a Buddy, not a Bully’.
    Thursday 6th July, 2pm – 4pm. Gorgie Suite, Tynecastle.
This afternoon aims to stop bullying before it starts and focuses on how the children can be good friends and be compassionate towards others, learning wellbeing and acts of kindness.
  • Visit of the Scottish Borders Donkey Sanctuary.
Tuesday 11th July, 12pm – 4:30pm. St. Boswell’s (transport by bus from Tynecastle).
Children will have the opportunity to know more about rescue and re-homing of animals and meet the donkeys along with ponies, llamas, goats, pigs, sheep, ducks etc.
  • ‘Be a vet for the Day’ September workshop.
    More details coming soon.

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so if you would like to join us, please email lesley@fosteringcompassion.org or call 07904 733 137 as soon as possible. We look forward to welcoming you to our new workshops!
